Complaints on Reddit have often centered around a black screen problem that can leave a player with no choice but to hard reboot. A number of users have unhappily been discussing these problems on reddit. Some of these complaints have been popping up for awhile, with black screens mentioned in threads dating from August, but they seem to have gotten more numerous recently.

I reached out to AMD to discuss these issues because they sound similar to some problems I encountered during the XT review. I wrote that review on an all-AMD testbed, partly because I genuinely wanted to take a look at midrange gaming on a platform that we know is increasingly popular in the desktop enthusiast space — but it was also partly because I had trouble getting the driver to install on an Intel platform.

Every time I tried, the driver would hit 67 percent and the display would turn black. After the review ran, I worked with AMD to troubleshoot the issue. According to AMD, the black screen issue I had encountered was distinct from the problem affecting games. Subreddits and forums are a great way to hear about the issues people are having with equipment, but not everyone knows how to write a good bug report or properly swap a video card.

Stability of our drivers is a key priority for our software team. They are monitoring forum discussions closely, including the black screen and other issues users are reporting, and we are actively identifying and working on fixes.

As soon as we have more information to share, we will let you know. There have also been some posts on Reddit. A potential temporary workaround is disabling hardware acceleration in applications running in the background such as web browsers or Discord. AMD is aware of the problem but has not given a timeline for a fix. This site may earn affiliate commissions from the links on this page.

About a week ago, I was playing a game on my PC when the screen suddenly went black, the monitor said that apparently nothing was connected to it.

The fix for that was to shut computer off and turn it back on, but then it became a frequent thing even outside of games. It'd stay on for a while, then the monitor would disconnect.

I assumed that the monitor was the issue at first. But after testing out 3 different monitors, the issue still remained.Black screen issues continue to be a thorn in the side of some Radeon graphics card owners. This has made GPU driver updates even more important than they might otherwise be, because each new one brings about multiple fixes.

That is the case again with AMD's new Adrenalin According to the release notes, the latest driver squashes four more specific black screen bugs. They include:. Most of the complaints regarding black screen bugs on AMD hardware have come from owners of Radeon RX series graphics cards. It's still not clear why exactly this has been a lingering issue—complaints and fixes date back to at least December Just this month, AMD put out a request for Radeon owners to submit bug reports to AMD if they are having problems, rather than solely posting to places like Reddit.

It's a tricky situation, because it's difficult to diagnose how many black screen issues are related to AMD's hardware and drivers, versus other parts of a system. These things can also tend to make people paranoid that any issue might be related in some way, though that's not always the case.

For example, some people have found that disabling Microsoft's "performance-boosting" Game Mode in Windows 10 stops their games from stuttering or freezing. In addition to the black screen bugs, AMD's latest driver fixes a host of other issues.

Beyond the bug fixes, the Paul has been playing PC games and raking his knuckles on computer hardware since the Commodore In his off time, he rides motorcycles and wrestles alligators only one of those is true. I recently upgraded my graphics card to better enjoy coh2, but when the game loads and starts to play, I get flickering, mostly the screen just goes black. The lobby works fine, its only after I start a game or replay does the problem happen.

I even have all the setting on low, with no vsync and no anti-aliasing. I've played coh2 with a Nvidia geforce card and I never had issues like this before. My specs are listed below. Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated!

I also set my launch options as follows in an attempt to resolve the issue: -novsync -notriplebuffer -refresh 60 -nomovies Summary Operating System Windows 10 Pro bit CPU Intel Core i7 2. Multi Quote Reply. Does the system work with other games? I would try Vertical Sync V sync on. The purpose of V sync is to minimize screen tearing as you are trying to update the image on the screen before it is done drawing it. So you get discontinuity lines on the screen. Should never go black though. AMD uses FreeSync.

That is where I would start. Jump back to quoted post 4 AugPM Rosbone. I never had an issue with nvivida cards in all my years with Coh. Im no expert but as you have switched from nvidia to ati its possible some of the old nvidia driver is lingering on your pc and causing the issue.

Download display driver uninstaller. Uninstall your ati driver through programs and features. Boot in to safe mode and run display driver uninstaller for both nvidia and ati. DDU should also change a windows setting to stop windows from updating your display driver automatically. Reboot in to windows and install the new ati driver.

If this doesnt work try updating your motherboard bios. It's a long shot, but it might be worth renaming your 'company of heroes 2' folder in Documents. That's where it stores all your settings. Renaming it should reset everything, without losing any replays or whatever.

Got GTX Installed card, drives and Coh2 worked perfect!AMD has released some intuitive features for their Radeon graphics cards in the more recent releases of the Adrenalin software suites but despite its best effort, there are many underlying issues associated with the drivers that have yet to be fixed and are swaying users away from Radeon RX series graphics cards. It has been at least 7 months since the Navi architecture-based cards have been shipping in the retail channel giving AMD enough time to fine-tune and optimize drivers around them but it looks like that has not been the case.

From AMD's own subredditthere are multiple reports from users who are experiencing various issues with their Radeon RX series 'Navi' graphics cards. The Navi lineup currently includes the following graphics cards which are all but based on the same architecture:.

New ATI Radeon RX 580 card, getting blackscreen in-game

Now coming to the issues, the first and most prominent bug which users have been experiencing since August is the black screen issue. AMD has yet to isolate the issue since it's known to occur randomly.

Most users have reported a black screen to occur while playing gamers or during driver installation. The first issue could arise due to a driver crash which doesn't reboot the PC but to fix it, you'd have to do it regardless.

The second issue occurs due to a buggy driver installation which means that users have to clean all existing entries of the driver install using a utility such as DDU Display Driver Uninstallertry to reinstall the drivers again and hope that this time it doesn't lead to a black screen. In its recent blog postAMD stated that they are currently investigating the black screen issues along with a handful of other bugs and fixes which would be added in upcoming releases of the Radeon Software. Radeon Driver Issues User Report. AMD also claimed to have fixed the black screen issue very recently but it looks like that is not the case as many users are still affected by it and it's not just specific to Navi based graphics cards but also their older Polaris and Vega cards as many Reddit posts point out:.

An intermittent black screen or loss of display may occur when performing parallel actions such as web browsing, gaming or watching video. An intermittent black screen or loss of display may occur when the system is left idle at desktop. If black screen issues are bugging you out, then other users are also reporting pink and green screen issues which sound even more concerning.

A pink and green screen may be due to various reason but the most common reason would be a memory heating problem. This might be specific to some AIB variants where we have seen the memory cooling is very inadequate and revised variants had to be released to sort out the heating problems. Despite the memory running at temperatures under the maximum threshold, it still manages to cross C on some variants which are not ideal for GDDR6 when playing games for a longer duration.

But if you're facing this issue while installing, you're lucky as that's just a minor installation bug which can be fixed by rebooting the PC and a clean install of the drivers as mentioned above. There have also been reports of hard locks while doing nothing at all which requires a PC reboot too. The reports of buggy fan profiles, downclocking, GPU throttle and the flickering is also not unheard of as many tech reporters such as Steve from GamersNexus and Steven from HardwareUboxed have reported these issues in their respective videos which are provided below:.

This and the aforementioned driver bugs put a lot of pressure on AMD as it would push more users away from Radeon RX graphics cards. Even AMD's mobility lineup of GPUs Integrated and discrete is affected by driver issues and major inconsistency between the mobility drivers and desktop drivers. If these driver issues remain unfixed and un-checked by AMD, they could result in a major market share loss for team red which they really need right now.

Hi, I can say that for me it worked by choosing to run on only the dedicated graphics card.

Maybe it is still in some auto selection mode, since it continues to flicker? Otherwise, you may have other applications running at the same time, which runs on the integrated graphics? If possible, you could try and disable the internal graphics completely, to force all applications to run on the Nvidia card, and then reboot. This would reduce battery time, but might make the flickering problem go away… Not sure exactly where to do this, though.
