It sounds like type 31 ferrite toroids will be the answer to some of my problems and I'm interestedin buying some. I had always considered Fair-Rite to be the main source of just about everything made of ferrite, and Jim mentions them several times in his article. However, Fair-Rite's online catalog does not list them in their toroid section, nor are they shown in their downloadable PDF catalog.

I'm pretty sure Amidon doesn't have them either. Where else can I look?

But they aren't easy to find. They have a wide variety of part numbers using type 31 material. I buy mine from Mouser which has no minimum order quantities, good stocking, reasonable prices and wonderful delivery and service. I can't speak to their service to Canada. These are the correct size for making sleeve baluns. Take a FB bead and insert 4 turns of RG58 spreading them out degrees to minimize the capacity effects. So let say you are having a problem with 7 Mhz interference. Typcial choking impedance at 7Mhz for the FB per the chart above is around 70 ohms for a single turn through the center of the bead.
